Timeline
A brief history of football at Canton High School
n 1900: Collinsville blanks Gilbert, 11-0 but falls to rival Unionville, 6-0.
n 1921: Collinsville High plays three games with Simsbury and Lyman Hall of Wallingford and is outscored by a margin of 159-0
n 1922: Lewis of Southington blanks Collinsville 19-0 on Sept. 22. ... Collinsville throttles Farmington, 72-0 on Oct. 6. ...CHS (2-4-1) beats Farmington again, 19-0.
n 1923: no team fielded.

n 1934: Football added as varsity sport.
n 1942: Despite World War II, Canton fields a team and goes 4-0, not allowing a single point.
n 1945: Canton finishes undefeated for second season at 6-0 under coach Weston Boyd
n 1951: Canton finishes 5-0-1, wins Little 3, Central Valley Conference title and CIAC Award of Merit under coach Guido Marino.
n 1952: Under first-year coach Nick Soloway, Canton is undefeated (6-0), wins Little 3 title, CVC title and CIAC Award of Merit.
n 1958: Canton (5-1) wins Little 3 title and CIAC Award of Merit.
n 1960: With opening of Lewis Mills and Avon High, Canton fields small team with just Canton players. Team folds after 2 games due to lack of players.
n 1963: Varsity football reinstated. Canton goes 0-6 in first year back.
n 1964: Varsity football eliminated due to lack of players after four games.
n 1973: Attempt to reinstate football as varsity sport voted down by Board of Education.
n Sept. 2002: Survey in school finds 88 boys interested in playing football.
n May 2003: Canton rejects offer from St. Paul to join co-op team with Goodwin Tech due to high cost.
n May 2004: Avon rejects offer to co-op with Canton due to increasing number of boys playing football
n May 2005: Lewis Mills chooses to co-op with St. Paul in Bristol instead of co-op with Canton. CIAC approves co-op with St. Paul, Goodwin Tech and Mills for 1 year.
n June 2005: Making no promises of future support, Board of Education gives fundraising booster group OK to solicit funds to field football team.
